Robert Allen Day

Rob passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2017, with his wife Karen and family at his side. Remaining active and engaged until the prior night, his good humor, list of completed projects and places he revisited, kept him involved and busy and was an inspiration for us all. Daily visits, meals with friends and the family he dearly loved highlighted this time, as did his walks to overlook Eagle Springs Lake, the place where he grew up and spent most of his life and knew so well. Robert (born August 3, 1943) is survived by his beloved wife Karen of almost 49 years, three sons Robert, Matthew, and Christopher, their wives Lisa, Kelly, and Sandy, his deeply loved grandchildren Stephanie (Adam) Theim, Erica, Ashley, Danica and Seth, his faithful 14 year old pug Ollie, and his brothers and sisters, Tom, John (Judy), Barbara Pinekenstein (Pete), Jim (Joe), Janet (Jeff) Prokop,and their children and grandchildren. Rob helped build the house where he and Karen lived for decades. The house incorporated hand hewn barn beams and local fieldstone. They often entertained out on the deck in summer and by the fireplace in winter. They lived close to his parents, the late John and Thomasina Day and helped care for them in later years. A contractor, Rob leaves a legacy of foundations, buildings, and landscapes throughout Southeastern Wisconsin, that included 30 years of periodic work on the Newell and Ann Meyer property which is now a major Nature Conservancy Preserve with ponds, restored prairie, marshes, and wildlife. Nicknamed Thumper as a young child for his gleeful crib stomping, Rob grew up energetic, hard working, warm, generous, insightful and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He graduated from Eagleville School, Mukwonago Union High School, served in the US Army at Fort Hood during the Vietnam war period, worked for other contractors, drove long haul trucks, and managed a trout farm, before founding his own contracting business. The family greatly appreciates the exceptional care received from Dr. Saadati and the staff of nurses and receptionists at Oconomowoc Pro Health Care Cancer Center. A private internment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee. At a later date, many fond memories can be shared with all, at a celebration of his life.
