It is with deep reverence that we announce the passing of Joseph Harold Soulak on the 4th of March, 2024. Joseph, known affectionately as Joe, was born to Harold J. Soulak and Mary Soulak in Adams, Wisconsin on the 25th of March, 1932. At the age of 91, he passed at his home in Cottonville, WI.
A man of honor and a patriot, Joe served his country as a Seabee in the United States Navy, setting a standard of excellence and commitment that would define his life. His academic achievements led him from the halls of Providence College to the esteemed institutions of Boston University and Roosevelt University, which fueled his distinguished career in the field of journalism.
Joe's professional journey was marked by his roles as an editor, (Lakeland Publishers) news editor, public relations manager, (Bastion Blessing), director of news services, (Encyclopedia Britannica) columnist, and writer. He was most proud of his tenure as the owner and editor of the South Milwaukee Voice Journal, Cudahy Free Press, and Bay Viewer. He was the proud author of "Growing Up Poor" and was a proud member of the Polish American Legion in South Milwaukee, holding many roles including President.
An avid lover of the great outdoors, Joe found peace in the beauty of his gardens and the companionship of his cherished dogs. His happiest moments were spent amidst the natural splendor of Pioneer Park in Lake Delton, Wisconsin, alongside his family.
Joe's legacy endures through his beloved family. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah J. Wrate, son-in-law Jeffrey, grandson, Christopher J. Wrate, granddaughter-in-law Tauren, and great-grandchildren Isla and Remy. His sister, Marjorie Sell also mourns his passing. Joe was preceded in death by his wife Judith Sharpe Soulak, his father, Harold J. Soulak, mother, Mary Soulak, and brothers, Gerald and David Soulak. Joe is now reunited with his loved ones who went before him.
The congregation will gather to bid farewell to Joe on Tuesday, April 30th at Sts. Peter and Paul Polish National Catholic Church 1308 15th Avenue South Milwaukee starting with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Joe will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Holy Name Cemetery in Wilmot, WI at 12:30 p.m. This solemn occasion will allow friends and family to reflect on a life that was a testament to the virtues of hard work, love, and faith.
Joseph Harold Soulak leaves behind a timeless legacy, the memory of which will be forever etched in the hearts of those who knew him. May his soul find eternal rest and peace.
