Lydia Esther Ortiz Torres, 74, was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on April 6, 1948 and passed away on May 13, 2022 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents Emilio and Isabel Ortiz, and her son Roberto Ivan Torres. She is survived by her husband, Roberto Torres; daughter Meralis Torres Hood; grandchildren Salma Esther Hood, Josué Adán Torres, and Sadie Isabel Hood; her brothers, sisters, and nieces and nephews.
Lydia raised two children with her beloved husband Roberto, instilling in them their love of God and hearts for service to others. She did the same with her grandchildren, becoming their best friend. She was a devoted believer of of God and Jesus as her Lord and Savior. As an accomplished educator, she touched the lives of countless young people, mentoring many as they grew through the education system and into adulthood. She built a strong and loyal community amongst her core group of friends. Lydia could always be counted on to support her loved ones, family and friends alike. A matriarch and pillar within her family and community, Lydia personified love for so many and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services, Thursday, May 19th at 7:00 p.m. at Oak Creek Assembly of God 7311 South 13th Street. Visitation at church from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment Friday, May 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Arlington Park Cemetery.
